How did you bag this role?
There are rarely any auditions which happen in Chandigarh so I used to audition for them all. I got to know about the auditions of Lajwanti. I gave my best shot and thereafter I was called to Mumbai for a look test. After getting through 2-3 look tests I was selected.
You always wanted to do a film!
Yes, I always wanted to do a film. However Lajwanti is not less than a film. Each episode is like a half an hour film. I used to dream of a role like this. It is very different from all the typical serials we have. The show explores what happens to this tempestuous relationship in the face of the partition.
Why did you choose acting as a profession?
My dance has brought me into this. I am a trained Kathak dancer. After seeing my dance someone offered me a short film. I am not a trained actor. I have got all my grooming from the show Ticket to Bollywood. Kunal Kohli, Mukesh Chhabra and Mahima Chaudhary were the judges of the show. I have done a Punjabi film Baaz and 2 music videos prior to this, one with J-star and other with Kumar Sanu.
How is your equation with your director and co-actor?
Rabindra Gautam has directed the initial 15 episodes. He is a show setter. He is my real guru who has taught me from scratch. Sid is very supportive. He was very patient with me when I could not get my scenes right.
