Cinepolis to rebrand Rathi cinemas and offer audiences multiple experience

A fortnight ago, Blockbuster had reported about how Cinepolis, the world’s fourth largest and India’s first international exhibitor, had entered into a strategic alliance with Rathi group of cinemas for operation of 10 single screen theatres. The latest is that Cinepolis is planning to give an all-new look to these theatres spread across Nagpur, Raipur, Bhilai, Durg, Akola, Yavatmal, Paratwada and Amravati and rebrand them under the Fun Cinemas brand. According to Devang Sampat, Business Head, Strategic Initiatives, Cinepolis India, “We are looking at giving the audiences a multiplex experience in these single screens. The idea is to have better multiplex experience for the audiences.” Since Rathi has leased out the theatres to Cinepolis for a fixed period of time on a revenue-sharing arrangement it is also seen as a win-win situation for both. According to Sampat, business can be evolved in various models and this model will benefit the industry. Moreover, exhibitors are looking at it as a renewed hope to a number of dying single screen theatres, which are in dire need of renovation. “It will certainly give these single screens a new lease of life,” Sampat recently revealed. Meanwhile, Cinepolis India, recently announced the launch of its first international multiplex in Rohini in the NCR region. The multiplex which employs the latest technology has seats and rows designed in a unique way whereby even a four-year child can see the screen clearly when a tall person is sitting in the seat ahead. It is also the first multiplex in India to have the ‘Real 3D’ technology which is less straining on the eyes. Cinepolis India managing director Javier Sotomayor said, “We aim to provide a superlative cinema viewing experience to the entire gamut of our discerning Delhi patrons. With this launch we get a step closer to our targets in India and have 240 screens running now, with a promise to open another 160 screens by 2017.”
