The upcoming Marathi biopic on actor Bhagwan Dada, considered India’s first dancing and action hero, has generated a huge anticipation in the trade, with distributors planning a unique release strategy for the film. The teaser of the film was recently released amidst much anticipation by the team and it has been trending ever since. According to the producer of the film, Dr Monish Babre of Kimaya Films, this is the first ever Marathi biopic on a legendary actor and producer, who had the masses dancing to his tunes. “The film portrays the very inspiring life story of Bhagwan Dada and his rise from a small two- room tenement to one of the most talked about stars in the 30s. Bhagwan Dada’s trade mark dancing moves will also form one of the highlights of the film, as also the behind the scenes struggle that formed part of his success story.” Moreover, the film is budgeted around Rs 4 crores plus, is being lined up for a grand world wide release next month. “We are releasing the film in a big way in around 300 screens locally and also releasing it simultaneously in 11 countries including U.K and USA on the same day, which is the first time any Marathi film is being simultaneously released in the overseas territory,” Dr Monish adds. According to Sangeeta Ahir, who had last produced Dagdi Chawl and is releasing the film all over, “This is the first time Marathi cinema will be seen internationally in all circuits. This is an avenue one should not miss for Marathi cinema. Bhagwan Dada was a common Marathi man and made his way up in life from a non-entity to one of the most popular actors. He was also the one who popularized dance with his sensational dance moves. Vidya Balan is the cherry on the cake and she is perfect in the role of Geeta Bali, who played an important role in Dada’s life. The film will provide an inspiration for the new generation about how any common person can build a dream and rise to the top.” Produced by Kimaya Motion Pictures and directed by Shekhar Sartandel, Manglmurti Films’ Ekk Albela features award winning versatile actor Mangesh Desai as Bhagwan Dada and the powerhouse performer Vidya Balan portraying the role of renowned yesteryear actress Geeta Bali in her debut Marathi movie.
