Is Kumar Taurani planning the sequel to Soldier with his son, Girish Taurani?
Remember the 1998 super-hit Bobby Deol-Preity Zinta starrer Soldier, which went on to do record business at the box-office? Well the latest news doing the rounds is that producer Kumar Taurani, head honcho of TIPS, is looking at making a sequel to the Abbas-Mastan flick with son Girish Kumar in the lead. When contacted Taurani said he was indeed toying with the idea of Soldier 2 though it was too premature to talk about it. “If we get a good script, there is no reason why we should not go ahead with it. Besides Girish has the looks and personality to take on the character. It all depends on how far he suits the script,” Taurani says. The filmmaker is upset over the response to Girish Kumar’s last release, Love Shuda, that went unnoticed thanks to the flood of romantic love stories with similar titles. According to him the people who had seen Love Shuda had a good word to say about Girish Kumar and Navneet Kaur Dhillon. However they were sick of the overdose of romantic films released around the same time. “The film would have got a diffferent response if it had been released on 15th January as planned. It was released amidst a bunch of romantic films that gave the impression of being the same. Also the audiences were let down by some of them.” Taurani points out that they had had a similar experience during the release of Bhagat Singh. “We made a good film and even got a National Award but the film got lost because there were too many Bhagat Singh films that were released at the same time.”
