Neerja continues with its dream box-office run, declared tax-free in Maharashtra and Gujarat
Fox Star Studios has got a winner in the Sonam Kapoor starrer, Neerja which continues with its dream run at the box-office. The film was declared tax- free in Maharashtra earlier this week, after which the Gujarat government also decided to grant it a tax-free status. MP Poonam Mahajan Rao represented Neerja’s case for exemption in Entertainment Tax which was approved by the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Subsequently, Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel declared the film tax-free in Gujarat after producer, Atul Kasbekar and Anil Kapoor, had a meeting with her in Gandhinagar in this connection. Meanwhile the popularity of the biopic directed by Ram Madhvani continues to grow from strength to strength, after the film opened to rave reviews and word-of-mouth publicity. The film grossed Rs 32.26 crores in its six-day run at the domestic box office and has got an equally encouraging response in the overseas market, especially UAE-GCC, Canada, Australia and UK. According to the official figures released, the film has grossed more than 55 Cr in its six day run at worldwide box office so far. Moreover looking at the overwhelming response, Fox Star has now added 200 more screens this week and increased the screen count from 700 to 900. Directed by Ram Madhvani, Neerja revolves around the 1986 hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi and how the 22-year-old air-hostess fought for the lives of her passengers. Meanwhile, Fox Star Studios has thanked the Maharashtra government for the tax-free status.
